Piazza della Libertà, built in the Reinassance, is the main square of Macerata. It hosts the Theatre Lauro Rossi, the Town Hall, the University and the Loggetta dei Mercanti, that is to say a graceful two-tier arcades loggia. The Loggetta was commissioned by the cardinal Alessandro Farnese when he was in Macerata at the beginning of the 16th Century (later Farnese became Pope Paul III).

Teatro Flora

The Theatre Flora in Penna San Giovanni is a very rare example of wood theatre. This small, sublime theatre was built during the 18th century in the Palazzo dei Priori (14th century), and it was painted by Antonio Liozzi.

“Salata” in Amandola

Today I’m writing from Amandola (altitude of 500 metres, inhabitants 3800). A custom of the local people, handed down from generation to generation, is the “salata” or “pista”, that is to say “butchery of pig”.

The salata happens regularly on winter, when the cold weather preserves the meat.

I can testify they use everything but the oink!

Pitino

Pitino is an ancient hamlet of San Severino Marche.
Pitino was the name of the first town built by the “Piceni” (7th century B.C.) on the top of the hill.
Today we can see the ruins of the Medieval castle and wonderful landscapes.

Francavilla d’Ete

The little town of Francavilla d’Ete (altitude of 231 metres, inhabitants 981) comes from a Medieval castle, submitted to Fermo from the 14th century. The name “Francavilla” probably means the tax exemptions of the area in the Medieval Ages (“Franca” means free, “villa” means villages).

Here I was with my mother Stefania: she’s a local specialized tour guide too. For a young tour guide like me, the advices of the colleagues are essential!

We visited the Church of St. Peter, that rises next to a nice flower garden.

Then we went to the Church of St. Roch, that hosts a “Worship of Shepherds” by Vincenzo Pagani.

Teatro Leopardi

Theatre Leopardi is small and cozy. It’s set in the heart of San Ginesio (altitude of 696 metres, inhabitants 3746), a graceful hill town close to Macerata.
San Ginesio received the “orange flag”, the most important Italian touristic reward for the little towns.

Here I was with some friends of mine,
attending to the C.S.I. concert.

The theatre is placed in front of the Cathedral (14th-15th centuries).
The facade of the church is a rare exemple of Gothic decoration in Le Marche.

Fermo, Cathedral

The S. Mary Cathedral in Fermo, made in white Istrian stone, is one of the most striking and beautiful churches of Le Marche. It rises up on the top of the Girfalco Hill, where the Romans built the city for the first time.

The church preserves a wonderful Gothic rose window and the valuable decoration of the portal, where it appeares vineyards, winemakers and symbolic creatures.

“Via del Teatro Antico” links the Cathedral to Piazza del Popolo, the main square of the Old Town. Along this way, it was placed the roman theatre.

You can also take a look to the S. Sabino statue.
